Vivian Royster aka Queen Mother LaBeija

Originally from Kansas City, MI, Krystal grew up in a large family, which included her identical “mirror” twin brother. Although he is cis-gender and identifies as straight, he and Krystal are extremely close and still maintain their strong twin connection. Fascinated with the cultural arts, music and dance since a small child, her hunger was continuously encouraged by her family. This enabled her to travel all over the county where she discovered her true self – a Black woman. After growing into her own, Krystal knew what she wanted to do; she wanted to be an advocate for the Black LGBTQ, specifically the Black Trans community. She is adamant that she is referred to as “a woman of trans experience” rather than a Trans woman or a transgender person.

As the Overall Princess for The House of LaBeija, Krystal has taken on the task of getting the house affairs in order. Since she is of the older generation, she has more of an “Auntie” relationship with the kids. She is extremely overprotective of the trans-girls particularly - she doesn’t want them to go through the struggles she had to endure. She is also the “Ballroom” historian - any questions you have, Krystal is the library of information. Krystal is a sweet soul and the peacekeeper of the House. She often serves as the voice of reason

She advocates services for the transgender community, hosts anti-violence workshops/events and has extensive experience working/volunteering with several non-profit organizations inside and outside of the LGBTQ. That said, Krystal is extremely political and stays aware of worldwide and national current events.
